History of Harrogate Fencing Club

We have recently been contacted by Fiona Movley-Armitage who has given us some lovely photos and details of the club’s history from the 1950’s  when her father Mawson Movley (1915-1989) fenced at Harrogate.

Beginner Courses 2018

Our next Adult and Childrens courses will start on 25th April 2018.

ages 6-12 yrs 6-7pm  and ages  12+yrs & adults 8-9pm

both are 6 week couurses costing £45 (thereafter £5 payable nightly)



Sadie wins Ashton Open Epee

World Veterans Championships - Bulgaria

Well done to Kate Elvin who won a bronze medal in the Ladies Epee team event at the veterans World Championships last week. Brilliant !!

Harrogate Fencing Club 1953 medal found

We have been kindly presented with a medal by John Mason.The medal is shown in our gallery and was awarded in 1953 for the Ladies competition at Harrogate Fencing Club.If anyone knows of the history behind this medal we would love to hear from you and many thanks to John for this fantastic find.

HFC in the Himalayas

Taster Sessions

We are now running special Taster Sessions for small groups or schools (age 8 upwards).

Recent taster sessions have taken place at Roecliffe, Pannal and Linton-on-Ouse primary schools,3rd Harrogate Scouts,Harrogate ronud table and David Lloyd in York,together with a taster stall at Bramham carnival and several other scout groups and schools.

"We had a taster session for my daughters 10th birthday, it was fantastic.Helen gave very clear instruction,demonstrated and encouraged us all.By the end of the hour we had all fenced each other,moving,lunging ,hitting and parrying.We had so much fun and were all enthusiastic and keen to have another go.I have already recommended the sessions to my daughters school and a number of friends are hoping to join the next beginners course in September." - Karen Hatch

Brian gets Bronze Award
